The British developer Rare, known for Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong Country, and Conker, has announced a new rebranding of the company in celebration of their 25th birthday. With the introduction of the new logo and branding will come a new website relaunch at a later date that will give Rare a new look for the modern age.

The rebranding comes just 2 weeks before E3 where Rare is expected to unveil their Natal games and hopefully regain the great reputation they once had[...]

Looks horrid I think. Then again, it's hardly the same Rare we knew when we were younger. A shell of a company wearing a new mask.

Do they really need all those different shapes? I'm cool with the type, but I'd rather see them abandon the old R completely if they are going to change their logo like that.

I never liked their shit in the first place.

You didn't like Conker's bad fur day?? OR DONKEY FUCKING KONG??

Shame on you.

Then again..I was like 10..

I know Donkey Kong was one of the most fun games I've ever played. It even had a legit story. I guess it's mostly on opinion though.

Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 or 3?
Goldeneye?
Banjo Kazooie?
Jet Force Gemini?
Donkey Kong 64?
Perfect Dark?
Banjo Tooie?
Conker's Bad Fur Day?

I could understand newer stuff like Grabbed By The Ghoulies, Starfox Adventures and Viva Pinata but the N64 and SNES era stuff was legendary. They were THE best second party developer in the world.

I never had a N64, and Donkey Kong Country 1 is ok, but was always really confused why the sound is so echo-y. DK Country 2 and 3 are dumb, who want to play as juvenile/baby monkey/ape/things?

Watched a friend play Conker on xbox, that look fairly amusing, but not enough to want to play it.

Sorry my opinion is different than yours, guess I'm a horrible person and should be fucked by Hitler in the ass.

Are there really any other second party developers to note? It's easy to be the best in something no one else does.

Also, Battle Toads and Killer Instinct, which are two of their most popular games are kinda over rated (probably due to nostalgia) and not even Nintendo exclusive since Battle Toads is also on Genesis and Killer Instinct is also an arcade game.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark revolutionized FPS gaming. If you haven't owned an N64 than you sadly have missed out on a great part of gaming history. I would say get one and play the games now, but times have changed and they probably won't seem as great and as revolutionary as they were.

FYI: Goldeneye introduced the concept of where you hit matters...other games before it had universal damage systems across the body (so you shoot a guy in the foot and he'll die, but not in Goldeneye - he might pull a gun on you...)

Too bad that Xbox 360 remake of Goldeneye will never see the light of day. The screens looked amazing.

Having a different opinion doesn't make you a horrible person, don't be silly. I'm just surprised that you didn't like those games. Naughty Dog are another '2nd party' developer as well...think Bungie could of been considered a 2nd party developer.
Just to clarify, 2nd party is what I'd say a previously third party company is when they are developing exclusively for one hardware manufacturer and are partly owned by them.

Hurray for online dictonary confirmation :D

Donkey Kong Country was by far my most played game on the SNES, I still go back and play it on occasion, on the N64 Goldeneye was one of my favourites, and goes without saying was amazing. After that I can't think of any games I've played from them, let alone enjoyed. Hopefully this will be more than just a change of Logo

Learnt something new today.:D

Naughty Dog kicks the shit out of Rare. But I meant that I don't believe there were a lot of 2nd party developers in the SNES/Genesis era.

N64 games didn't age well at all.

Some didn't and some did imo. Games like Goldeneye haven't aged well because everyone is so used to 2 joysticks now, trying to play it with one just feels clunky and not fun. Games like Zelda OoT still have great stories that can keep you playing, and I don't think the graphics for some are all that bad. It's all personal preference though...I personally care more about storylines and gameplay in games (which I feel a lot of n64 games did great) and don't care as much about graphics.

It's not like it would hurt to get and emulator and try out some of the classic n64 games.

And also, Conkers was way better on the N64 than 360 :).
