For a company so adamant on keeping things under wraps, Sony sure is having a tough time with information control on its purported PS3 Slim hardware revision. French-based site JVN reports that the slimmed down model will hit store shelves next month in Europe at 299.99 Euro -- 100 Euro less than the current asking price.

If true, official word must not be far off, as one would presume that Sony plans to make an announcement at its gamescom press briefing on August 18. Considering the showing is scheduled to be a full three hours long, we're certain Sony plans to bring up some important announcements there. The countdown is on.

I think I would rather get a 2nd hand 40gig or 80gig model...whichever it was that had some ps2 emulation support

Wrong, 40GB units never had backwards compatibility support... it was actually the first model that came without it. 20GB and 60GB units have hardware BC while early 80GB units have a mix of hardware and software BC. Now 80GB units come with no BC at all.

To my knowledge none of the BC enabled models were ever sold in Europe, only North America and Japan.

Getting a cheap 20GB is the way to go. Just replace the HDD with a bigger one.

acually you're abit wrong there. BC models were sold in europe because i bought my 60GB whic is BC.

and i forgot my PS3 was a 60Gb i thought it was 40! :p lol
