Recently, MTV News broke the rumor that Microsoft was working on their own version of Nintendo's popular Wii Remote controller. More details on the supposed controller have surfaced, this time courtesy of Jake Metcalf over at 8-bit Joystick.
Jake expects the motion-sensing controller, which he says is codenamed Newton, to hit later this Winter. Obviously the final product will carry a different name.
Industry sources suggest that Microsoft has licensed patents from peripheral-maker Gyration for Newton, the same company that Nintendo licensed tech from back in 2001. The Newton controller is said to feature an LED sensor bar that can be powered via USB, along with accelerometers and a gyroscope. Additionally, the device is speculated to sport a built-in microphone for use over Xbox Live.
