Various sources (see Penny Arcade comic above) are reporting that Gamespot editor Jeff Gerstmann has been fired over a rather abysmal review of Eidos' Kane & Lynch: Dead Men.

You see, Gamespot struck an advertising deal with Eidos and sources say that when the publisher saw Gerstmann's review score -- a low 6.0 -- they threatened to pull the plug on the whole ad campaign.

So how did Cnet (Gamespot's parent company) respond? According to reports, they fired the guy. Yeah, so much for opinion. If true, this sets a troubling precedent on Gamespot's review system.

Screw that. That's why I only trust user reviews, like those on GameFAQs, because you know they're not gettin' paid for the crap. I hope Gamespot goes into the crapper now.:mad1:

i don't thrust in any kind of reviews
just on my owns, based on what i see (videos/ imag and shit), gamespot gave 7.5 to skate. wtf

How can a site reporting how good games are fire a member of there personnel for saying what he thinks. Looks like if the game company are willing to pay for advertising then they get to say if the game is good or not themselves & its no longer down to a member of there staff to give his honest opinion.

To be perfectly honest I always try a game b4 I buy it unless I know its going to be a hit.

Lastly I would like to say bravo to Jeff Gerstmann for having enough back bone to stay what he thinks & not what he's told he can say (its ppl like Jeff that make a game company make better games).
