Running PSX games on my PSP 4.01

Problems running PSX games on my PSP 4.01

So far I have tried making eboots of 3 games now

- Need For Speed 3
- Parasite Eve II
- Final Fantasy IX (Platinum)

The above are all PAL and failed to run, PEII got to the Squaresoft logo at least.

Then I tried on Parasite Eve, A Japanese game I picked up while I was in Japan. That game works surprisingly...

Do PAL games not run as eboots at all?
Thanks

This was one of the guides I read before posting this thread.

The first line says "This guide assumes you are using Open Edition firmware 3.02OE-A or higher." So does that mean 3.9M33 and 4.01M33 are included as a higher version?

I'll give it a go though.

Thanks

Okay, so I created an image of disc 1 of FFIX. The playstation logo comes up and then the screen goes black.

Does that mean that this particular game cannot be played?

Have you checked the web for the compatibility charts not all PSone (PSX) games can be converted. I mean you can convert them to Eboot but those Eboots may stall/not run etc.

Dino Crisis springs to mind, the one copy i had was the 1 out of about 7 versions of the game that would stall at the title screen. I tried so many converters and to this day never got it to work.

I will check for the link and post back if i can find it.

Have you tried other converters i.e Autopopstation 4 or PSX2PSP?

PSX2PSP is what I used in mine.

On Youtube I saw a guy showing him playing FFIX on his PSP... maybe it is a PAL thing. On a list somewhere else FFIX was listed as working.

I didnt try the rest except FF IX.

POP 3.11 to 3.3 OK, loaded w/o POP at 390 and 401 also OK. But there is a common problem to all the setting :- I encountered the game hanging in a loop ( not freeze, but pictures still seen moving but endlessly...). It happens in disc2 on some fight scenes, once inside the Castle library and a second time inside the dessert palace. There could be more but I gave up playing the game .......

I understand the source of my eboots were PAL.

It could be a Platinum thing then? I made the image using Isobuster, what did you use?

eh.... what is Platinum thing ???

I didn't make the image. I got the image from ..........

Then I use psx2pspv1.2 ( there's newer version now ) to set up all the icons, backgrounds, backgrounds music ... before output the eboot file. There are 4 eboot files in FFIX with the same game and save IDs, I didn't combine into one.

I only use isobuster to verify the gamesave id.

I used this process to create the eboots for FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX. Only FFVII worked perfect. FFVIII crashed big time (freeze during fight when casting a spell) in all the POPs and 390, didn't try 401. FFIX problem was highlighted earlier.

I have a great time with the PSX FFVII and completing it with gold chocobo and putting down the emerald and ruby weapons. As for FFVIII and FFIX, I couldn't continue with all the impending crashes .... sad.

From the pops compatibility thread:
[ Final Fantasy 5 ] NTSC - works
[ Final Fantasy 6 ] NTSC - works
[ Final Fantasy 7 ] PAL - Works perfect in 3.10 glitches in 3.03,crashes in certain situations on 3.30 and 3.40
[ Final Fantasy 8 ] NTSC - works but crashes when using a spell
[ Final Fantasy 9 ] NTSC - works (tested with 3.11 pops)
[ Final Fantasy Tactics ] NTSC - works

And Platinum is what sony call games that sell over some amount(cant remember off the top of my head) of games, for psx the discs are silver instead of having a picture on them.

Thks Jake for the explanation. So how does this Platinum cause problem ?

BTW, in the POP compatibility list, I can confirm from my experience that :-

a. FF8 crashed not just using POPs ( I tested all of them ) but also in 390. I tested with the default IDs 00892 as well as 02180, both failed.

b. FF9 ( NTSC and PAL, I tried both ) worked perfect only in Disc1, crashed repeatedly on the same 2 occasions as reported earlier in Disc2, Disc3/4 not sure as I didn't make it that far due to frustration.
