The NPD Group has published its software and hardware sales figures for the month of September. On the hardware front, sales were up across the board overall. Nintendo once again obliterated the competition with 687,000 Wii units sold, up 234,000 from the previous month. Sales of the 360 nearly hit the 350,000 mark, largely thanks in part to the September price cut. The PlayStation 3 managed to shift more units throughout September as well -- 232,400 consoles were sold compared to last month's figure of 185,400.[blockquote2]"Compared to August, nearly all hardware systems realized an increase in unit sales in September," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. She added, "The price reduction on the Xbox 360 helped deliver a month-over-month unit sales increase for that platform of 78%. This increase, despite the acceleration of economic turmoil during the month of September, is solid indicator of the health of the industry heading into the holiday season."[/blockquote2]Looking over on the software side of the spectrum, LucasArts managed to break the 600,000 mark with its latest Star Wars effort, The Force Unleashed. WiiFit sales remained steady at 510,000 units sold and Rock Band came at a distant third, shifting 363,000 copies. Hit the jump for the complete software and hardware sales breakdown.
