Sony: UMD Movies Taking Price Dive, Expect At Least Five Releases Per Quarter

With the advent of the PSN video download service, which offers movies formatted for both the PSP and PS3, we thought UMD movie offerings were a done deal. Looks like we were wrong.

Speaking to Video Business, Sony marketing director John Koller revealed that the company plans to keep the format alive, releasing at least five high-profile movies on UMD each quarter. This time around, they'll be priced affordable too -- from $9.99 to $14.99, which is at least $10 less than the price of UMD movies years ago.[blockquote2]We want to provide a legal offering from the studios,

Personally, I like the UMD videos. The quality of the video is better than most DVDs, and now the price will be cheaper as well. If you aren't trying to build a BD collection, maybe it's time to get more UMDs.
