According to a 1UP report, Sony will debut a revised edition of PSP hardware at this year’s E3 in June, dubbed the “PSP Go!” The moniker is presumably designed to fit alongside Sony’s Go! brand of hardware and software additions, such as the Go! Cam and Go! View. The site’s source alleges that the PSP-4000, as [...]

Although I'm sure that I won't be buying this, it does have its pros and cons. From the mock-up above, there is no second (right side) nub stick. This was a mistake from the first gen PSP that Sony should've have already fixed  However, I never did really dislike the UMD drive, save for the itchy/scratchy noises buried deep within when playing a game. I do like the fact that Sony is going to have two separate versions if the above is correct. I'd guess at $200 for 8GB and $250 for 16GB, which would give it a little room to fit in with devices like the iPod Touch, which has similar sizes and prices (8GB = $229, 16GB = $299). This would allow it to have a more sensitive pricing range which could inevitably compete even more with the iTouch (iPod Touch). Heck, Sony could even price the 8GB at $179, but that's just a rough guess.

I am going to just get the PSP3000 now that it has an exploit. I hate thing like this that slide up, because its like the bottom where you hold it, is unlevel and will be uncomfortable.

I'm disappointed that this won't have a second analog stick. That's the only thing that leaves me wondering "what the fuck are you thinking Sony". Honestly, if they were to add on another analog stick it would only increase the capabilities of all future games - and then all past games just simply wouldn't use it. This may very well be the deciding factor for some people in whether they will buy it or not.

Also, I really hope that there's mass removable storage (I'm sure there will be). 8/16gb just won't cut it considering how big ISO's are. You'd only be able to fit on a small collection of games with that kind of size.

Other than that, I'm really liking what I'm seeing. I like slide designs and I can just picture myself holding one right now I think it would work really well. Will definitely be picking this up.

ill have to see what its like when its released.
the 8gb/16gb Internet memory sounds nice.. but im not sure whether il like the sliding screen.

If this has no-umd drive, im pretty sure it will just be a test for the PSP2 whether they should include a umd drive.

i wish it had a second analog stick perhaps they can think again.

Going by that picture i see a slide up design would be nice :)

Hopefully this will be made sooner rather than later!

I'll reserve judgment until I see a real picture. Cause that mock up is impractical and ugly.

I agree. No need to start hating on mock up photos that haven't been verified, etc.

I'm still not really sure that the market needs this at the moment either. Depending on the feature set, I would imagine Sony would need to have some sort of contingency plan for people with existing PSP's so that their UMD games don't go to waste.

If not, then I don't think there will be many people (read kids) who have a PSP and a decent UMD collection that will be migrating over to this.

Yeah but new games that required two analogue sticks wouldn't be able to play on PSP 1000/2000/3000 models.. unless the second analogue stick wasn't required and i was just like to turn the camera and on old models the camera would just adjust automatically.

If this is official, this is the third year in a row Sony have launched a new PSP. None of them are a particular improvement either. Sony needs to concentrate on games and bundle packs, for at least 3 years, and then launch a completely new model, with real improved hardware and specs.
Releasing the same thing over and over just doesn't work.

Sony need to also realise, that theirs a new kid in the portable gaming block. iPhone.

I know myself and loads of people, will not be carrying a PSP2 and an iPhone. The iPhone has good enough games to pass the time.

In my mind no phone, not even the iPhone, can compete against a dedicated multimedia/gaming device. The iPhone is good for games but it wasn't designed for gaming in mind. The PSP2/Go! will be and will have a large library of games.

We might see a built-in camera for the PSP Go! and a touch screen possibly, so with those two additions it's already beating the iPhone - aka better camera on PSP2/Go! and touch capabilities

I didnt say that the iPhone would be better. My point was that people already have iPhones in their pockets, the average joe wont go and buy another portable handheld device for gaming.

Its like iPods. They're being used less and less and mobile phones get better music functions. Soon, no one will have dedicated music players. They'll just have phones with huge amounts of memory. No one who has a phone with like 8GB of memory, brings their iPod around with them too. It just becomes clunky.

Most people don't have an iPhone, and even if they did, that doesn't necessarily cut into the portable gaming hardware market. The average Joe probably doesn't have an iPhone in the first place, and so might want to buy a new PSP depending on the feature set. I don't really think that there's been any real trend away from handheld devices dedicated to gaming due to cell phone gaming.

You're right, I am seeing that alot lately.

The iPhone has sold really well all around the world. About 31 million. The PSP has done better with 50 million sales globally, but that could be down to it being out for longer.

And the iPhone has effected the portable consoles. If you dont see it, take a look at Patapon 2. Its coming out digitally, ala app store.

Yeah but I still don't see many people with iPhones and when I do, most of them aren't gamers or use there phone for gaming.
I have an iPhone and I would gladly buy this is the price is right.

Something to add, I noticed that motion detection wasn't mentioned. Although I have a feeling that those features mentioned previously are solid, I almost wonder if six axis (or some form of motion detection) will be included. This would make it even with the iPhone, and would make it seem even more right since the PS3 includes motion detection.
