Surround Sound through PS3/TV and Monitor/PC

Hey, hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this for me. :D

Currently, I have a HDTV with my PS3 connected up going through the TV, built in, speakers. & Monitor/PC with a set of cheap 2.1s going through the sound card on my PC.

What I'd like to do is buy a set of 5.1 surround sound speakers (getting rid of the 2.1s) and 'hook' them up to both my TV/PS3 (which ever way around) and to my PC at the same time and use a device or system, to switch between the two inputs. (PC and TV/PS3).

Is this actually possible? I've done some google'ing but not found any clear answers. :blushing: Has anyone done this and can share some advice please?

Thanks,

TR

Yeah the Z5500s will do the trick. You need a set of speakers with a built-in receiver or a art of speakers with a separate receiver. I own the Z5500s and absolutely love them. you should wait until they are on sale if you want to purchase them.

Might I suggest this instead:
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S3300-5-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B003BEDQR6

Supports every single format under the sun including HDMI 1.4's 3D Bluray. Decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio and all that. Receivers in this price range usually only passthrough HDMI audio but this decodes everything and the receiver settings menu even gets overlayed on the TV screen.

It's going for $278 now. However to connect it to your PC you'll need to use either HDMI to get 5.1 or Dolby Digital Live/DTS Connect via SPDIF. Some on-board sound cards and most of the Creative lineup can do DDL/DTS.

Needs some tweaking to make it sound good but its totally worth it. Subwoofer positioning make a MASSIVE difference. Like muddled and unbearable to well-defined and punchy.
