While the perpetually delayed Duke Nukem Forever hasn't won critics over, garnering a low 50 average on Metacritic, publisher Take-Two isn't about to call quits on the franchise. Company CEO Strauss Zelnick has told Forbes that future Duke IP is coming, eventually:
We don't really talk about it in detail but you will see future Duke IP coming from this company.

Part of it is the economic opportunities that interact with entertainment are so huge[...]

I think that Gearbox tried to release Duke Nukem Forever as it was meant to be 12 years ago, with a few additions and nicer graphics. That's mostly why the game has garnered a mixed reaction. However I get the feeling that if they create one from scratch, they can leave all the critics silent.

Yeah if Duke Nukem forever was released in like 2002 it would have been awesome.

Now let's see them make a more modern one and I'll probably enjoy it.

That's how I feel as well, about the game being fantastic-really good by 1997-2005 standards.

I expect Gear Box to make a killer game if they start from scratch. Duke is like Weird Al, he's capable of always being culturally relevant if he tries hard enough.

I think the overarching problem with Duke is that even "modern" FPS's these days are pretty stale and unoriginal. I can't think of a game that has brought the genre forward that released in the last three years.

I really believe that a new Duke game could be progressive in terms of deliverance and interactivity, if not game play.

Jokes and interacting with shit has always been what duke is about to me.

Yeah this game had some good laughs in it from start to finish, but it just felt, stale to play.

Shooting aliens has gotten pretty used up over the past years.

Imagine if the next duke game was something similar to how different Prey 2 looks from Prey 1.

And Prey 1 almost took as long as duke, I feel like Duke Nukem 4D could be awesome with an inspired direction.

Duke travels to the 4th dimension to fight off aliens and save babes?
