"The current number of illegal downloads of The Sims 3 suggests lost retail sales of $9 million dollars to date, based on a $49.99 starting price." That's a pretty large chunk of change if you ask me. California based BigChampagne LLC

Wow, that's appalling. I'd like to say I didn't contribute to that, but I did. Hopefully a lot of the pirated versions will be followed up with a purchase of the real game when it is released.

I always wonder how the leaker must feel knowing he is resposible for this...

This goes to show that companies shouldn't wait on releases like this. Honestly, just make the game available for purchase instead of waiting forever. Right now, the only way to play the Sims 3 is to pirate it. I imagine that for some Sims fanantics, it's worth it.

So while piracy is to blame, I think equal blame should be placed on the publisher.

I'm sure some of those 180,000+ people that downloaded it will go out and buy it. But anyways, that sucks for the company. I agree completely that these companies shouldn't wait so long to release it.

why wait to release a game if its ready? i don't understand :S

The kind of people who know how to pirate a game are not the type of people who buy The Sims anyway. Teen age girls, and Housewives don't know what a no-dvd crack is.

This game will sell 20 million.

They have to make the discs and cases, etc... Probably takes some time.
It went gold on May 08, so there was plenty of time to release it early if they wanted to. Little Big Planet had to reprint all their disks, and resend them back and that took less than 3 days. Not to mention Sims 3 will also be sold through digital distribution, so no cases or disks there.

If a game is finished and ready to be played it should be sitting on a store shelf instead waiting for its release date.

i thought it was the whole song lyric thing which they had to re-do?
