Ridiculous. The shortage at the start of the PS3's life hurt it immensely, and now it looks like it's going to happen again.

The price it's at now is the 'magic' price for decent adoption, and they released a new SKU at the same time. Of course there's going to be high demand.
 
It's a ploy to get people to think they won't be able to find one at stores so they should go out and grab one while they still can.
 
I'll just quote myself from the same post on exo...
I would feel inclined to say that any shortages would be produced by Sony trying to create some sort of hype...if people know that something is in limited quantities, they tend to try and buy it ASAP...it creates a buzz...although after this amount of time seems odd...
