Ubisoft today announced that it has successfully reached an agreement with Mr. Tom Clancy himself to acquire "all" intellectual property rights to the Tom Clancy name -- indefinitely.
While the French-based publisher would not reveal how much the transaction cost, it is now free to use the Tom Clancy mark in various forms of media, including video games, books, movies, and merchandising products without any licensing or royalty fees.
Following the announcement, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed in a conference call that the company is considering to develop a MMO type game based in the Clancy universe. Such a move would cost "between $40 and $50 million dollars," according to Guillemot.
