Publisher Ubisoft has reportedly filed suit against Optical Experts Manufacturing, a disc reproduction plant located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The suit accuses the company of failing to comply with a number of security procedures, ultimately resulting in a premature leak of the PC version of Assassin's Creed, which turned up on torrent sites nearly two months before its retail release.

Since the game calls back to Ubisoft's servers when accessing certain features, Ubi was able to trace internet connections made with the pirated version back to an OEM employee. Following this, the employee's residence was later searched and a copy of the game was found. Uh-oh.

Ubisoft said it is suing OEM for $10 million on grounds of "copyright infringement, breach of contract, and negligence." What strikes me as odd is that Ubi sent this plant a copy of the game two months before release. At that time, the game hadn't gone gold yet.
