Yes? That's what a search engine does.
True, but for all the applicants? Surely that would take a lot of time.

Good luck with your applications, hope everything works out.
Out of curiosity, what's up with the personal statements? Just wondering how it's done, as we never had to where I live. (Australia)
Universities and colleges receive thousands of applications from UCAS annually. They will read your personal statment with two main questions in mind - do we want this applicant on our course? and do we want this applicant at our university'?

You guys have it easy not having to PAY 9 GRAND A YEAR.
Menace, I hope you hadent planned on using that statement as is... you sound like youre applying for high school.
Universities in the US aren't government funded, they are almost always private. They actually have it worse than us even with our education cuts. xD
Yeah..Tuition has been raised nearly 10% since I first started attending my school and will have plenty of loans to pay off once I graduate... There is potential for federal aid but their criteria for giving aid is so messed up. Basically it looks at your combined family income and determines if your family can afford to put you through school; regardless of how many children are already attending school or cost of living...
Most Universities noadays aren't fond of taking gap years, and I doubt I could find a job right now which pays good, and gives me time to study. Doesn't look like Uni for me :/
Any tips then?
Since I was young, I have had an interest in electronics and computers as well as mathematics. It started when I was shown my uncle's brand new Windows 3.0 PC and I were fascinated at the process of input and how it affected what the computer was showing. After that, I developed a further interest in computer games which has been a lifelong hobby. As I got older and started working on more advanced mathematics in school, I really enjoyed working out the logic and methods behind the mathematical problems given.
2004 was a really good year for me as it was when I got my first laptop for myself and I also did my GCSE (no acronym) Mathematics a year early which I was proud of. As soon as I got my laptop, I got stuck into customizing the Windows XP installation and even tried out a few GNU/Linux distributions which made me interested in programming and comfortable working in a CLI (no acronym) environment. It was around then that I started looking at different programming languages like C, Python and Java, as well as discovered different concepts and ideas such as data arrays, matrixes and program flow.
I also began looking at the various components that make up modern PCs and learned how they were connected and were related to each other. Using this knowledge I was able to put together my first custom-built PC which I had intended to play games on. I started doing computer maintenance for friends and family around the same time which ranged from small issues with cables or drivers to catastrophes which required a backup of important documents using a GNU/Linux live CD then reinstall of Windows. I had also made patches for Quake 1 and 2 which were specifically aimed at the Steam version of the games which excluded the music soundtrack. The patches I put together reintroduced the music for the games as well as added modern graphics options.
What I would really like to receive out of attending University (use the entire school name) is a chance to meet like-minded individuals and eventually be able to use my BSc degree after graduating to obtain a job within the IT industry as either a programmer in a software company like Crytek UK (previously Free Radical) or a system administrator/technician with managing a large set of computer hardware and software for a company. I feel that this would be a beneficial and productive way of using my knowledge of IT (no acronym) and problem-solving skills to advance my myself into a career that I would really enjoy.
