UMD Passport, the digital buyback program Sony announced for UMD owners earlier this month, has gone live. Through the program, users can buyback digital downloads of UMDs they own at a discount price for playback on the PS Vita. So far, the selection list comes in at around 262 games -- that's about 1/3 of the entire PSP library.

What strikes us with concern is that

Ugh. Why does Sony leave this kind of thing up to each developer/publisher? Same thing when they announced custom music for games on the PS3, it's there for any dev to use, but unless teh dev takes the initiative... you don't get it. Not kewl.
That said, while I'm sad to see Square and Capcom pussy out, 1/3 of a system's library is actually quite a bit for launch. I have no doubt more will be added as we go on.

It just sucks when only 1/3 of the library is actually decent, and less then that actually good
