unable to update to 3.40 or 3.03

My PSP firmware is 1.5 and \i have downloaded several trial of Dark_Alex 3.40 & 3.03 firmware update and nothing seems to work.

The Dxar.data file in never created although I formated my 1GB card using the PSP several times.

It attempted to create the Dxar file onlt when I leave the two update folders in the PSP/Game folder but always give me the message that "opening and checking 150.PBP". Then I get "Can't open file".

I have downloaded several version of the 3.40 dowbloads from several sites and even attempted to update using the 3.03 A and 3.03 C updater and still the Dxar data file is not created.

The PSP works which mean it is not Bricked but why can't I update. I am updating to play the game Dragonball Z Shin Budokai Another Road in both ISO & CFO versions.
 
have you tried re-downloading the 1.5 update?

also.. if you are running windows make sure you have file extensions turned on in folder options. some users in the past have had file extensions disabled and named the pbp files wrong.

Then when I placed only the oeupdmaker & the oeupdmaker% one the PSP/Game folder, the DXAR file was created but at size 0 KB and the PSP shuts down in less than ten seconds warning me that it couldn't open the 150.PBP file.

Do I need to have a Dev Hook installed or this is supposed to enable me to use my PSP without need for a Dev Hook?

Pls help as I have exhasued all my options and it seems everbody else on every forum was able to do this with much ease.

then the only conclusion I can come to is that your memory stick is probably a fake. Can you try with a different one?

Yes, fake memsticks sometimes work with small files, but nearly always fail on big ones like the ones used/generated by the updater.
 
I, pretty much decided to do so although my card is an original Sony MS Pro Duo 1GB- High Speed bought directly from Sony.

I found people on other forums discussing SanDisks as being better then Sony & Lexar. Any truth to that?

Does formatting from inside the PSP as opposed to formatting via a card reader from the PC makes any difference?

yeah, its better to format it on the PSP.

SanDisks are definitely the best sticks, I have two of them and haven't had any problems.

Try this

It's designed so that you don't need to mess about with moving files around etc.
 
Problems with the 1GB Sony.

I've set several of my friends up with OE firmware and TWO of them had official 1GB Sony sticks which BOTH would hang forever trying to make the DATA.DXAR...
In both cases we were successful by using another memory stick (in one case my real Sony 2GB and in another their smaller spare SanDisk).
Don't know why but now I'm convinced not even to bother trying with the Sony 1GB...

I also have two SanDisks and have been perfectly pleased with them.

I finally got my ordered SanDisk and I am back on business with my firmware correctly updated to 3.40. Thank you x3sphere & Krelian for the sound advise. I wonder what's wrong with Sony and their cards and batteries.

Being a newby, my problem are still there and I feel like I going to ask another silly question but I will anyways. After updating my firmware, Dragon Ball works fine from my UMD, however, I don't know how to open the .ISO and the .CFO versions that I have. I did all of this to be able to play the downloadable games. Now I am update, do I still have to install the Dev Hook say version 0.44 or later?

Please advise what's to do next to play the online ISO & CFO games.
 
If you're having trouble creating or reading files via the normal updater, do NOT use easy installers! Odds are likely that any file you put on the stick won't be correct and the easy installer will wind up bricking your PSP. 90% of bricks occur because of easy installers and bad memsticks.

The point it, is you can't use the regular installer, you SHOULDN'T use the easy installer for fear of bricking. If you CAN use the regular installer, there's no need to use the easy installer; ergo, you shouldn't ever use the easy installers. 8)
 
i too have this problem
i just stared to get into this stuff.
so my psp is 1.50 and im getting all the problems like khal312
so what do i do?
do i get a new mem stick

i've tried it with a 1 gb sandisk and a 128mb sony but it still doesnt work
please help i would very much apprecate it
