Whats New in Homebrew?

For the past two years I've barely even looked at my psp (got a ps3 and didn't see much good games) and as such I'm a little behind on the homebrew scene.

So can anyone give me a basic look at all thats new and exciting on the psp these past two years? Has there been notable improvement in avi playback or any other interesting homebrews?

A big chunk of advancements have been made through irshell. I'd suggest reading up as there's a lot of good stuff.
