what's the safest way to successfully install 3.52 M33-4 if my psar is incorrect?

i'm going for 3.52 M33-4. i installed the kxploitpatcher with no problems, then the 3.52 M33 CREATOR with no problems, but then ran into an error with the 3.52 M33UPDATE step, where it tells me that my psar is incorrect. i've done everything perfectly fine, so i assume it's either my PSP or Sony 4GB memory card pro duo that's causing the hassle. i'm thinking of using the 3.52 M33 Winstaller instead, but i got scared after the intro warning about brickin the system, because if it's possible to throw $94 out the window, it'll happen, with MY luck. what do i do? will a smaller memory card do the trick? thanks

and something else before i try installing the CFW: are there any strange problems with making gamesaves, or setting up and connecting to my password-required internet connection, or playing games online with others in lobbies, or reverting back to the official 1.5 FW I started at, if i install this CFW? thanks

Don't, if the PSAR is incorrect then you probably have bad PSP update eboots, try downloading them again and remake the file!

and by the way change a memory stick!
yours might be a fake.

hello,

so where should i get the eboots then, and which one would be incorrect? i have a EBOOT.PBP in a M33-1234\PSP\GAME150\M33Update4 folder that i believe wasn't used yet, because i have to get it to 3.52 M33 before i use the M33-4 update, and i have a EBOOT.PBP in the 3.52M33\1.50only\kxploitpatcher that i have used. and if those 150.PBP and 352.PBP files count as 'eboots' as well, i'm supposing it might be one of them that's bad. and i'm not sure where they go, either. and i'm not sure what you mean when you say 'remake' the file?

another forum is telling me to just use the winstaller. would doing that be dangerous due to my getting the psar error with the manual install attempt? (someone told me to format the card again through the psp and then run the winstaller, meaning through the PC with the PSP attached)

i don't have any other memory sticks, but this one looks like a true blue sony. it came brand new in official sony packaging with the little holographic sony sticker, says 'SONY' on it, nothing fake-looking about any part of it, an adapter included as well, says it's made in japan, 2006, comes with a 5-year warranty. received it yesterday. but by all means, if buying a second card just to install this stuff correctly is THE safest way, i'll do it, so long as i can use the 4GB one again from then on. if that's the case, what's the smallest card (cheapest) i need to take care of these installs? since i'd only be buying it for that purpose. i read somewhere that the installs aren't guaranteed to work using a 4GB card. so it may not be because it's fake, which i believe it isn't. however, the problem is if the winstaller will brick the system because of the fact that it's a 4GB card. that would be a problem. then i'd need to buy a much smaller one just for this

Did you buy it online or offline (via futureshop , circuit city , radio shack , eb games /gamestop ) ? I bought a 1GIG from futureshop and everything worked

i bought both the psp and the 4GB card off ebay, but i'm reading on other forums that the 4GB cards just don't work with CFWs (or at least not 3.52 M33-4)

IF that were true, is there a major risk running the winstaller on the 4GB stick?

if so, i would simply purchase a smaller GB stick just for the install, in which case i'd like to know what the minimal GB is that it has to be, so i don't have to spend too much money. also, i assume that i can use the 4GB card AFTER installing the CFW with the smaller one. correct? i own a 1GB stick made by a company called 'PNY,' which i use in my digital camera. should i just try using that, or is there some major risk involved with using a non-Sony card?

What is the "winstaller, " does it already include the PSAR file and stuff?

If so then yes you are taking a risk because if your memory stick cannot create the PSAR, then it could die out during the flashing process.

A 256MB stick would be fine for the M33 installation. Also, I'd recommend the SanDisk brand.

hi =) yours were the instructions i was following, until i got to the psar error, anyway=)

the 3.52 M33 Winstaller is something i found on a forum about installing the 3.52 M33, which looks to be an automatic installer that's run on your pc with the psp attached by the usb, that people have used to install 3.52 M33 in cases where manual installation fails, such as with the psar error, or when using a 4GB card. i'm not sure what it includes, as i haven't used it, and all i found was the program file itself, no readme or anything else

wow, sounds like i won't be using the winstaller, then

great, then i'll purchase a 256MB stick by SanDisk. or else, to save me money, i do have a 1GB 'PNY' brand SD stick, but would that not be compatible with the psp anyway, since it isn't a Pro Duo? i'll just buy a 256MB SanDisk if there's a risk. also, can i assume that i can go back to using my 4GB stick in the PSP after i install the M33 with the 256MB, even though the 4GB one isn't the one that installed the M33?

Yeah has to be a Pro Duo stick, so the 1GB SD card won't work. And yes after installing M33 you can go back to using the 4GB card without any problems.

i found a 128MB version of the sandisk pro duo, which looks like it holds the files needed for the M33 as well (which is 34.7MB total, according to the files I have), and saves me just a few bucks over the 256MB one, so i'm assuming the 128MB is okay too? i'm not going to use it for anything after this install, so the cheaper, the better

Yeah, go for it, 128MB works fine as well.

i had the same problem

I had the same problem as andrewset,
It wouldnt update, i followed all the instructions, i put 150.pbp and 352.pbp into the M33CREATOR folder which was in the game150 folder. And when i selected firmware creator it loaded then said....
(using firmware 3.10oe-a)
3.52 M33 FIRMWARE CREATOR

Loading 1.50 firmware... OK
Writing 1.50 firmware...OK
Loading 3.52 firmware... SHA if 3.52 psar doesn't match expected.
Press X to exit.

every time it did the same thing, i was using a memory stick which i bought off the net for a cheap price, so i used my bros which he got from a shop (1gb) in town and then that time it worked! When it says writing 3.52 firmware... it takes a long time, so dont worry, it must of took 20min for me lol:biggrin:

Fake memorysticks(crappy quality ones) usually have alot of corrupt sectors and fake "space" basicly a fake 4gb ms would only fit around 600mb-1.2gb of valid data the rest would become gibberish/empty headers. A good quality fake(yes there are good quality ones) works just as a genuine ms would do speed wise and functionality wise but with one down fall of it not working with all the card readers.
