There was always some sort of background dissatisfaction with the way that the owners had given the administrators the means to actually administrate. As Frozen said, they were unable to update the forum software to make it more secure and up-to-date. Also, due to the shadow-like figure that Yantis was I believe it was quite difficult to contact him and ask for greater permissions. After the PSP scene had run its course and QJ began to level-off in terms of new user activity the owners must have decided that they would make more money selling it off than keeping it running themselves. That's when Sinbad, I think, turned up one day to tell us that he now had ownership of the site and intended to make it 'better'. Pretty much within a month we all ditched QJ and the old administrator's created MfM. Then after about a year MfM merged with eXo.

That's how I remember it anyway, my five years with this community condensed into one paragraph!

Didn't someone whose username began with M used to run it? And there was a controversy regarding him/her?

Abe made a great post as to why people left, ill see if i can find it

My Two Cents <<-- MfM public launch announcement

If you look through the QJ Off topic section circa Late October 2008 you might still be able to find posts outlining frustrations at the time.

Of course. Pretty much any "competing" site is censored over there.

I’ll keep it short, but I just wanted to make a quick post to give a little of background information on why this site was formed. It has become increasingly clear that the decision makers of the QJ network have stopped caring, and that evidence became apparent in how the frontpage and forums were being run and treated. Activity was way down on both fronts and there was absolutely nothing the current staff could do about it because we were tied to a set of rules and permissions that had us handcuffed.

Since we were basically helping out a company that none of us worked for and pretty much none of us had any contacts with, we were/are left in the dark on everything. To avoid the inevitable day when the plug was pulled on the forums, it was decided that creating a network and forum of our own would be a great preventative measure. (Rather than sit down and play music as the Titanic sank.)

What we hope to accomplish here is an environment where members are free to fully express themselves as they see fit and without the previous restrictions of the QJ network. That doesn’t mean that common decency rules are thrown out the window however. If you are mature enough to discuss gaming, homebrew, and developing without crossing that line, then we hope you enjoy your stay.

It was debated about to bring over the entire QJ forum database, but in the end it was decided that a fresh start was needed. As with any new start along these lines, the only thing that will help us grow is the community and user base who will be reading this. You will find the amount of industry knowledge regarding things like the PSP and PS3 here equal to or better than other similar sites across the internet, and we look forward to seeing you contribute to it.

So thank you for reading this and we hope you enjoy your stay. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let us know.

When? MforMature went public on October 20th 2008.

Why? Allegiances for a good deal of members were with the community that had been built and not QJ as an entity. When we (QJ forum mods) moved to greener pastures it only took a month or so for the majority to follow, and for the most part, the community hasn't looked back.

@Seth, thanks, that's the one i was looking for, but i didn't have patience with my phone to find it until i got home.
@Harley, it's kindof noble what your attempting to do, but qj for all of us here pretty much died a long time ago, we've moved on from that ship. The times were fun but overall we've come upon a better community here at exophase.
but anyway to sum up why qj failed: bad server administrator's(i.e nonexistent), combined with the dying psp scene, meant the general death of qj's primary attraction.

I never cared for QJ or any other forum (except TCCC of course) I'm only still around because of the people.

QJ was lucky in the past because of the people that used it. It had nothing to do with the site itself or how it was run that made it or killed it. It was simply the people. We left because others left. Those people left because they realized the place was terrible from the start and helpful people are everywhere.

When the name changed from PSP Hacker to Updates is when I started to distrust the site.
