Btw as for the poor mods at qj comment, I'm the only one that really does anything and I do a fair bit. Tbh i never knew how many spam bots you guys used to deal with. I can't be on it 24/7 though due to college and social stuff.

Anyway i think mfm is doing alright for itself and isn't as bad as has been said.

I've never noticed irc being strict. :S

I would be willing to help you in the writing and organization of such a guide. Back in college in my Creative Writing and English classes I was known as a Nazi for criticism and editing for peer editing. This made everyone want to partner with me because they knew I could get them an A.

hmmm... The intent of the thread is actually a good one although it has been taken offtopic and misunderstood quite a lot (i actually read the whole thing thru in 15 min :|)

Suggestions:

- Clean up the PSP section. It's a mess and getting worse.
- Add "no piracy discussion" to rules. The PSP section got bad due to lack of that.
- Motivate people into reporting posts. It might help a lot.
- More staff to better control users? Since not all staff is available maybe having one or two more for the purpose of ONLY controlling users would help?

Ideas:

- More community events. Can you spread it to the PSP for example? MGS: PO, Killzone, Resistance games?

That's all I can think of for now... Hope that helps...

While I like that something productive is being suggested I'm not sure I want to derail this thread with this idea. I'd rather it return to the focus of how to deal with ... undesirable people. But to end my post with a zinger again:

This thread is about improving the site, so it wouldn't be derailing.

We already have a thread for this exact thing, Moose's huge PSP guide. The thing is, people don't use it, because they need personal help. A monster guide will be too much information to sift through and digest, especially if it gets detailed. Having it be detailed is a double edged sword, while it will help users who are capable of reading and digesting information, the huge amount of information itself will only confuse complete newcomers to the scene. This makes up a majority of people unable to understand the guide, sadly.

Someone discussed in one post that staff were having troubles defining what MfM is all about. I'm going to say what MfM is to me: a place where everyone can have productive discussions about everything, having some fun and making some friends.

I remember that in the beginning it was said that MfM should be about "Consumer Electronics" - and all the topics around it.

So basically this should be a community (with a news-FP) where we gather to talk about all our gadgets we so much enjoy to use.

I know i'm new here, but i'm pretty reputable on PSPISO. Anyways, that's not the point. I just want to bring up gamefaqs forum. The administration on there is tight as hell. One my friends decides to be a moron and post a long post about porn and all that stuff. He was banned the second (literally. he couldn't even view his finished product) he pressed post. I personally think that Gamefaqs is a bit up-tight, but honestly, with that quality of administration, its hard to get away with spamming and stupidity for long. To finish off this incredibly long, and to some, useless paragraph, thats the level of admin we should have.

Concerning the IRC channel, I agree with what eighty4 said about the joking but I think that if it gets out of hand a staff member should step in with a warning for it to stop. By out of hand I mean if someone is obviously uncomfortable with what's being said to them.

The ironic thing, is that if we drove this board in the direction lampworker wanted, everyone this site would leave... I know I would... I've known a lot of the people on this site for years, and this is where we come to fuck aroud. If we can't fuck around, then this place loses it's perpose for existing.

To those of you that think I'm the fun police, I can really see where that comes from. I guess I've come off as expecting this place or irc to be totally strict and limited. That's not what I want. Can anyone disagree that too much 'playing around' limits how productive the place can be? I don't want to stop all the fun and jokes. Believe it or not I can laugh But too much trash in, you can only get junk out. If that's what people want, I can understand. Interesting. Besides the fact that I've never said "chillax," your reading skills are about as good as Lamp's over here. My suggestion is that this community was formed because of the ridiculousness of QJ, with the very purpose of openness in mind. I doubt that they would want to fundamentally change the nature of the site just because you're very reputable over at PSPISO.
