3.40 OE-A Install Guide

Safe to upgrade 3.10OE-A' to 3.40 or NOT????

New to this.
My psp was originally v1.5, I upgraded to v2.5, then downgraded to v1.5 and now upgraded to v3.10 OE-A'.
First Q: Is 3.40 OE-A better than v3.10 OE-A'?? I would think so :wink:
Second Q: using the install instructions here - am I "SAFE" to use it and upgrade to 3.4 OE?

yes you can upgrade to 3.40 OE-A safely using this guide.

Hey all,
I recently bought, hacked, and upgraded to dark alex's 3.40Oe-A firmware, and everything went great. I'm having something of a unique problem though, I installed bookr, and a couple of backup PSX images onto the psp, and the psx images run fine, however, I also had a backup copy of burnout dominator on there, now, when I try to run burnout, it opens up ok, but I get simply put, a blank screen, nothing else shows up, I can use the home button to navigate back to the dashboard, but that's it.
I was also using bookr, and that worked perfectly fine, however it started giving me the error
The game could not be started. (8002014C)
Other games also do this, such as Shinobi, Ultimate Ghost's n Goblins, and Street fighter Alpha 3 Max all give me the same error, or the following:
The game could not be started. (80020321)
So could anyone help me? I'm not sure on the stance on potential warez here, if its frowned upon, I'd still appreciate help with bookr. Things I've tried.
1) Recovery Mode, I've tried recovering back to the firmware, no change.
2) Formatting Memory Stick, Same deal, no dice, still gives the error.
3) Changing .iso to .cso, still gives the error or the black screen.

Just realised - this issue with the homebrew software not working started since I installed the gboypsp emulator, even removing it it still has the same thing.

Well, after quite a bit of working on it, I fixed two of the three problems.
First problem: With the "The game could not be started. (8002014C)" was fixed by moving the installed dirs from /psp/game/bookr | /%bookr to /psp/game150/bookr, same with the other homebrew programs.
Second problem: with the "The game could not be started. (80020321)" was fixed by going into recovery mode and selecting 'no umd'
now to figure out the final problem of why games dont fully boot. You can add street fighter to that list of 'black screened interactable games'

Yup, that fixed the second problem (I editted it in below) the final problem I'm getting is that the games will boot fine, however they just sit at a black screen forever unless I press the 'home' button and exit it. Street fighter alpha3 max apparently semibricks my machine, forcing me to use recovery mode to re-access my PsP dashboard.
hmm that is strange. are they mostly older games? isos could be corrupt.. also OE is really picky with modified isos.. so if you have rebuilt them, changed files, etc. that could be why they aren't working..
Hardyz2: nothing firmware-wise would cause that .. if the second game you're putting on doesn't work it is most likely a problem with your memory stick.

Yes, I have a mate with the same problem, I can load 4 or 5 games without problems, he can only load 1 or 2 before they start stuffing up.

burnout dominator, just black screens, interactable. GTA liberty city stories does the same thing, and finally street fighter alpha 3 max semibricks my machine, as I said I need to go into recovery mode to get back onto the psp firmware. So it's a mixture of new and old games, I dont think it's the memory stick, everything ELSE I load on there works fine, including my custom psx isos.

Hello i just switched to 3.3 oe-a, and i wondered if i can delete the files i used to put it on, also is there any tutorials around to put a psx game on a psp and wat are the advantages of upgrading to 3.4 oe-a???

So yeah, any thoughts on what could be causing black screen interactioness? I dont think it's just me that's got the problem, one of my friends cant load the game either, and theres a few people on blackcats who cant run it either, we're all running various version of black alex's firmware (3.10 through 3.40)
you've tried disabling plain modules also right (its found in recovery)?
if that doesn't work.. it's either down to a corrupt iso or slow ms. I've helped some people before here, a few games would not work on their memory stick no matter what, but then they tried them on a different ms and they worked (wasn't even a fake ms either).
now there is a memory stick brand called Lexar which is even slower than the Sony ones, and fails on loading some OE plugins like Cwcheat. Because of this I think memory stick speed is a huge factor in getting games to work. Sandisk memory sticks are the fastest, and I haven't had troubles with any game so far.

it's a full install so yeah it will work on all OE versions
