While Epic's Unreal Engine 3 may be a robust middleware solution, its out-of-the-box state hasn't quite satisfied the needs of BioShock developer Irrational Games. Although the studio is using UE3 as a base for BioShock Infinite, several tweaks are being incorporated into the underlying codebase -- many of them significant.

is this really news?, i'm sure the UE3 engine gets tweaked/rebuilt for custom use all the time

This is probably a fluff piece to assuage nerds from fretting about the fact that this game is based on 4+ year old technology.

You know, the kind of nerds who would start a shitstorm about what resolution Halo 3 runs at, despite the fact that the game looked good.

those nerds are pathetic, and have no idea of the trade-offs of running a game at a lower resolution, or even the first thing about programming
