I'm hoping there will be some way to save a bunch of the game ID's on one disk, and be able to play multiple games on your hard drive (for modded consoles of course).
That would be great. One of the reasons I was interested in saving games to the hard drive is so I don't need to take all my game discs over to Terri's house every time.

To make sure you always have the game

This is to prevent people from renting, saving to the HD, returning the game, and be able to play it forever without the game ever again

It's being worked on, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. But then again, all we would need is a re-write in the DVD drive firmware, so anything is possible. But remember, they've been trying to get homebrew on the 360 for two and a half years, and it hasn't happened yet.

That's because they havent found an exploit in the 360's firmware. If all this mod requires is modified drive firmware it should be out in a matter of months.

Yes, but if we could use a fake disc to trick the 360 into playing something off of the hard drive, wouldn't that be an exploit? MS has done a good job with this update, and they're sure of it. The 360 installs the entire game, not just essential files like the PS3, so you know that MS has put quite a few security measures to prevent such things.

The new dashboard is so much better.

Loads everything in instantly.
I installed it yesterday after all, and my opinion as a newbie 360 owner is that it is much more confusing than the original dashboard. I guess I'll get used to it though.

But you're right; it is much more faster. :p

The loading time differences with The Orange Box are quite substantial... not so much with GoW2, though.

There's a real nice article that goes into great detail about the upcoming NXE. It even goes so far as to compare loading times from DVD versus an installed game. Worth a peak if you are interested:

im not so happy about the halo load times...
it takes longer to load an game then before.

"Sierra 117 46 seconds 53 seconds
Crow's Nest 59 seconds 70 seconds
Tsavo Highway 46.5 seconds 57 seconds
The Storm 52 seconds 64 seconds
Floodgate 54 seconds 64.5 seconds
The Ark 61 seconds 69 seconds
The Covenant 66.5 seconds 78 seconds
Cortana 40.5 seconds 48.5 seconds
Halo 80 seconds 65 seconds"

Shockingly Delicious
Since my box got banned I decided to throw the nxe on it.

Overall, I don't like it.
The only things I liked are the save a game to hard drive (can finally play Midnight Club with no pop-in) and the fact that the overall NXE can load up way faster than the blades (like pressing the X-button will bring up the menu faster)

The wallpaper is pretty much always covered, and just the organization of somethings made it difficult to navigate through.
I was really looking forward to the NXE, but now I'm disappointed.

can't you use the old blades? I tought it was an option use the old blades at choice.
And still have NXE features?

I hate to sound like a douche, but it's been stated a hundred times before that the blades only comeback as a replacement for the guide blade. There is no option. The new dashboard is mandatory, and if you want to navigate blades, you press the guide button.

Anyway, I just got into the NXE preview program (a whopping 4 days before release), and I freaking love it.

I was having problems with the old Xbox dash and guide freezing... A lot. It was sluggish, and just gave me a ton of problems. The NXE is WAY faster, and 10x more responsive.

The new dashboard, I'm pretty indifferent to. It's no better or worse than the old one, so there's not much to say. I thought I was gonna hate the way the panels disappear to the left, but it hasn't been a problem.

The avatars are also pretty cool. It's pretty much a throw away feature, but it's still pretty neat. Being able to take a picture of your avatar and use it as your gamerpic is a really nice touch as well.

Probably the best addition is Netflix streaming. I watched a little bit of the Office, which is one of the shows they're streaming in HD, and it's absolutely stunning. It rivals Blu-Ray in quality in my mind. Even non-HD movies look really good.

I'm not sure what to say about the install to HDD feature yet. From what I've heard, weather or not it actually enhances a game's performance is on a game to game basis, and I've only installed GOW2 so far, so I don't have much to say. For GOW2, it appears as though they're might be more pop-in than before, it's hard to tell. I imagine playing without the drive spinning is nice, but I didn't really get a chance to hear it in action, since I was listening to a podcast at the time.

Also, making the (almost) entire blade system available through the guide button what a great addition. Being able to manage my active downloads, or even browse the store with out having to quit out to the dashboard is awesome. This is something Sony added recently, and I like that Microsoft was so quick in adding it to their own system. It's never been more clear that Microsoft is a software company, and Sony is a hardware company. If Microsoft would have added this feature first, it would have taken Sony at least a year to implement it into the XMB.

Overall, I'm defintely impressed with the NXE. Can't say there's any real faults that I can find.

James.
