The Royal Wedding

I wouldn't say I particularly 'care' about the wedding but I did watch it. I see no problem - and no reason to be embarrassed - in being proud of the British monarchy (it is the heart of our history, after all). Of course, I'm not ignorant enough to believe that they are even slightly necessary in the running of Britain; that has been mostly up to politicians ever since the World Wars. You can throw around the tourism card as much as you like, but in the end I would be inclined to say that the amount we give the monarchy every year is probably equal to the amount of money gained from them through tourism.

Kate's brother's speech was absolutely the most cringe-worthy and horrific piece of oration I have heard. xD The number of times he practiced it must have surely been plenty enough for the organiser's to decide that he should never have even had a part in the wedding other than sitting in the audience.

well done Dan. that little girl is holding her ears in anticipation. 100 quid he didnt last a minute.

Lmao, good point.

That's a cracking picture! :) The little girl should be covering her eyes not her ears, unless Wills is a screamer :P

I still don't get how they can sit around unemployed and live for free.

Living for free seems a bit stretched, and i doubt they do much sitting around either. The estates they own are vast.

I seriously doubt the personal income from their businesses even remotely covers the cost of living in a palace. Not to mention the millions the wedding cost. In India, the kings have to pay taxes on their property just like everyone else. Their current business incomes don't even cover the taxes they have to pay to the government. Most of them have sold their palaces & properties to the government since the wealth tax on them is ridiculous and they can't afford to pay.

Fine, if you view them as a business, but they do a lot more than simply promote Britain or pay taxes - They are almost a cornerstone to our society. The country would be a poorer place without them. Just my view.

Actually, the UK apparently gains

Enough said...

Ah I see... An individual can't own that much empty land over here.

It all started when some Frenchies thought it'd be a good idea to come over to the British Isles with an army and conquer the country back in 1066 then hand out various bits of the country to members of that Army and give the biggest share to the leader. Think he was called Billy or something. /sarcasm

A lot of major countries now are distinctly separate due to territorial gains made by various monarchs back in medieval times.
