I wouldn't say I particularly 'care' about the wedding but I did watch it. I see no problem - and no reason to be embarrassed - in being proud of the British monarchy (it is the heart of our history, after all). Of course, I'm not ignorant enough to believe that they are even slightly necessary in the running of Britain; that has been mostly up to politicians ever since the World Wars. You can throw around the tourism card as much as you like, but in the end I would be inclined to say that the amount we give the monarchy every year is probably equal to the amount of money gained from them through tourism.
Kate's brother's speech was absolutely the most cringe-worthy and horrific piece of oration I have heard. xD The number of times he practiced it must have surely been plenty enough for the organiser's to decide that he should never have even had a part in the wedding other than sitting in the audience.
