Site Direction. Needs improvement.

I recently had a conversation with a member of staff about what this site is for and we both found it extremely hard to come up with a definitive answer. What is mformature all about? This is also one of the things that need to be addressed.

Maybe if you actually did report a post occasionally your opinion would be valid.

Your completely right. I SHOULD be doing more to help the MfM community. I actually hadn't really noticed this until today, which puts me also at fault. But that doesn't mean that the problem isn't there.

I agree that a lot of this thread is greatly exaggerated. But there are a few members attempting to spoil it for the masses.
And those members should be dealt with. But posting a thread like this does nothing. He could have just discussed this with staff privately via PM. But instead he creates one of these bandwagon threads where everyone, all of the sudden, agrees that MFM has tons of problems that need to be dealt with but nobody provides solutions

Eh, I think I'm going to bed now. I've had enough of the internet for one night..

I for one would rather be able to give input and i'm not staff, most of them dont even think there's a problem.

I agree that there are an element of undesirable people on the site, but sadly that's how it is on all sites. Right now we are at a dissadvantage since we are understaffed and people have just started their summer breaks. Also, you have to realise that "staff" members are not moderators, the moderating is done by everyone as a group effort when they have the time, my main focus how ever is on editorials.

We are in the process of adressing the moderation issue and I think our solution will work quite well so we'll see.

I told you guys when it was going on. All the members that came here only for HEN are going to overrun the forums with PSP threads, and it will anger previous members. Trust me, bring it up anywhere and you'll get a more detailed explanation.

I completely agree with Lampworker. At the rate this site is going, it'll be the same exact thing as any other forum, full of idiots and lax rules so they can keep their members. Do we really want members who write like it's a text message, or who are incapable of searching for anything? No, but right now MFM caters to those people by allowing what they do to be done.

I absolutely and vehemently disagree with Lampworker, it's this new kill joy "guys it's srs time now" attitude that I find utterly unbearable.
Loosen up, if you don't like what you see on IRC use ignore (since you only ever seem to moderate the undesirables (me, Hiratai) and not those who actually need moderation (Clinteger)) and use the report button on the forums. I was staff for a while and I didn't see reports from you proportionate to the amount of bitching you do.

tl;dr Stop moaning, do something about it.

I think we all agree that the site needs some re-working in how we are handling all the new-comers and the influx of help that is needed, and those so lovely noob questions; but there isn't too much we can do. It's something that comes with the territory. I want something to happen (can't say what) but I don't think it will happen. We need something fresh, new and exciting to happen. We need to sharpen our blade and even show that there's more to the internet than the Chinese people and the PSP

Maybe the most obvious solution right now: to post up the rules in every board, because it seems no one's reading the rules in the Announcements board. And add to it, things like "Please do not ask for a new exploit on any firmware." I feel that the PSP section needs the most improvement, with idiots and useless threads running rampant.

Also, the words "5.50" and "ChickHEN" have been making me almost as sick as hearing the word "Twilight".

I like this suggestion. Another message board that I visit just as often as I visit here does it and there are hardly any posts that break the rules.

Though that might also be as it cost money to see 95% of the forums so people have a lot more to lose by being banned.

I must say, in that 5.03 ARAB thread it was a complete fucking mess. However, on reporting Ipaq responded quite quickly. I'm not justifying the problem one bit, that problem is lack of moderators in time zones, and lazy people who don't report posts.

The newcomers have got to realize that many of us have known each other 3+ years, and with that comes a lot of joking/inside-jokes/whatever the fuck.

Just want to mention that I looked into this yesterday and reporting posts isn't actually as slow as it appears.

It took me 52 seconds according to Fasterfox to report a post, but the actual report is created the second that send report is clicked. The following 52 seconds is the backend sending out staff emails. So if anyone wants to report a post without waiting just type in your reason, click "Send Report" and then you can safely close the tab/navigate somewhere else and the report will still come through successfully.

There's a time and a place for jokes tho. Off topic and IRC are fair enough but ideally any discussion on the forums should be real discussion and not just idle banter. The IRC channel is the best place for people to make jokes and have a chat.

And no, not SA. It's a very specialist site, unless you own a Nissan Primera/Infiniti G20 then you're unlikely to be interested.

You have NO idea. Everything there has to be serious or you get muted, and same here with bans and warning flying around. This whole "let's be serious now" type shit is annoying as fuck when we all come from a place where jokes are permitted and we left because of how strict it was here. Now we're faced with the same thing.

Well IRC is shit anyway so it doesn't really matter :p

I'm quite open to jokes it's the trolling and abuse that has gone on that's the problem. That's what we need to get rid of. I'm not naming anyone in particular here as it's not just one single person.
