Quick question, i'm new to the custom firmware thing so i'm trying to do my best not to brick. :) My battery isn't fully charged, but will the flasher run okay on external power?

Edit: I went ahead and did it, and didn't brick my psp or anything!!!!!. I just want to say thanks x3sphere, your infinite patience with noobish questions is much appreciated! Without you, myself and countless other psp noobs would be lost. :P

HELP! missing folders

HI, i am a newbie here....just followed all the instructions and upgraded my 1.5 to 3.40OE-a.
BUT i realise that in my psp, there is only one "psp" folder, with 4 subfolders in it....."games,
music, photo and savedata". I couldn't locate any places to put my iso files into. tried creating
a ISO folder in the root folder beside the psp folder but those isos couldnt run at all. Please help me out with this problem as i dun see many threads around with my same problem. thank you all.
:confused1:

OE 3.40-A

Hi, i have succesfully upgraded my firmware to open edition 3.40-a ..
But the isos that i try to play doesnt work, i managed to get turtles to work one time, but then the next time i tried to play it it didnt work, i have a ISO folder in the root where i put my isos. should i put them in GAME150 instead?

Please help. Im lost...:confused1:

well both of you try changing your settings in recovery mode to:

Use NO-UMD: Disabled
Plain modules in UMD/ISO: Disabled
Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO: Disabled
Use isofs driver also in UMD-inserted mode: Disabled

Recovery mode can be accessed by holding R while turning your PSP on. Remember to have a UMD in the drive when playing any game from the memory stick.

Recovery guide is here

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=1508

but I don't think you bricked. by any chance do you have a UMD in the drive? try removing it.

thank you for the recovery guide, no i didnt have a umd in the drive, shud i? i have just ercovered it and i am back to fw 1.5. will try and re run the install again. should i have a disk in the drive?

many thanks

edit: is it ok to go from fw 1.5 to 3.40OE-A or do i have other stages to go through? i really am a noob n dont wanna brick my psp. all help and advice greatly appreciated.

ah ok never mind then, on default settings a UMD auto boots when you start up your PSP so I figured maybe 3.40 OE had a problem with the UMD you were running and was booting up to a black screen.

well that is a strange problem. I'm thinking something may be wrong with the flash1..

Download this flash1 formatter and follow the install instructions in the readme:

Thanx, jus 1 more question, which option should i take?

Also this is what i see on my PSP -

A folder called PSP. In that folder there is 4 folders
MUSIC - This is empty
PHOTO - This is empty
SAVEDATA - This is empty
GAME - This contains 4 folders -

340oeflasher - contains EBOOT.PBP & DATA.DXAR
340oeflasher% - contains EBOOT.PBP
oeupdmaker - contains 150.PBP , 340.PBP , DATA.DXAR & EBOOT.PBP
oeupdmaker% - contains EBOOT.PBP

This is all that is on my psp. Is this normal or am i missing something?
Thanks again

hum.. no, not really. there are other people that have had a similar problem but it always ended up being either the UMD or brightness turned off.

what region is your PSP from ?

also can you try installing 3.40 OE with a different memory stick

installing 3.30 OE would not fix this problem.

on 1.5, can you run this program and tell me what it outputs?

edit..... in my game/memstick on my psp it shows "keycleaner" then "PSP Update ver X.YZ" then "3.40 OE-A Firmware Install", 2 corrupted data icons, then finall "3.40 OE-A Update Maker

yeah I want to see what the KeyCleaner program says.. so it is fine that you're running 1.5.

it seems that the original archive didn't include the 1.5 eboot, so try this one.
