Why does it say I'm a bot?

We have an advance anti robot system called Anti-Random running on our servers, if your nick - ident - gcos (realname) combination is too random (too many numbers included or all the same and/or a known word in the dictionary is being used) then it Z:Lines you for about 30-45 minutes.

So make sure your client's configuration isn't too random.

Standard IRC ports are blocked on my network, what should I do?
EvilSeph said:
As most security applications have the option to block IRC and several systems administrators choose to do so, we've opted to provide some non-standard ports that everyone can use.

I'm not sure if posting these ports in public is a good idea, so I'll tell whoever needs it in PM and they can pass it around to whoever else needs it.

Uhhh, Chatzilla won't connect to the IRC channel for me, I've installed and reinstalled and all I'm getting is errors. I'm guessing you already know this consdiering you didn't put it as an option in the first post, or maybe it's just not working for me. I'm downloading another IRC client now, hopefully this'll work.

EDIT: LeafIRC won't work either, but it did give me this error message;

Connection failed! java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: connect

I'm guessing it's something to do with my Java settings, but I've not idea on how to edit those. Is there some sort of Console window I can bring up to change them? any help is greatly appreciated.

Not quite sure why you're having problems Fresh but it is definatly your end. I'm using ChatZilla and have no problems at all.

Chatzilla works fine for me.

If you have firewall/antivirus software make sure it's not blocking the ports (6660-6669). Also check your router config, there's usually an option in there for blocking IM ports (altho this would also block MSN).

I found the problem. McAffe Virus Scan which my dad installed is blocking IRC communications, ports 6660-6669. Problem is, even though I'm a system administrator, the program's not letting me change any of it's settings. :(
Exactly the same as I had at work. There's a registry hack for unlocking the McAfee settings. Gimme a min and you'll be in.

Edit:

Click Start then Run type in regedit and click ok

Navigate to the following in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associated\TVD\Virusscan Enterprise\CurrentVersion

Right click UIP and choose Modify. Delete any characters in there.
Right click UIPMode and choose Modify. Change the value to 0 (zero)

That'll unlock the McAfee user interface and you can unblock the IRC ports (and do whatever else you want to :p)
