Using The Universal Unbricker To Unbrick / Downgrade / Restore Any PSP To 5.00 M33-4

Someone turned my battery & MS into the Pandora version that merely downgrades a PSP to 1.5

Is there any way I can change my set up to include an upgrade to 3.71 M33? Even better would be a P.U.M.S that would enable the dual options of running either 3.52 M33 or 3.71 M33.

Or do I need to start all over? I'm a bit concerned with messing around too much with my battery. I've heard some sad stories how batteries have turned into hockey pucks through the Pandora alteration.

Sorry if my question has already been answered in this thread. I did try to read through in search of my answer. I made it up to page 8 & realized there are 28 pgs altogether. I just don't have it in me to do that much sorting & sifting.

Thanks for your help.

Only follow the first part of this guide, which details how to create the magic memory stick. There's no need to re-convert the battery.

It depends on how the eeprom is stored on that 2200 mAh battery. I had a counterfeit 1800mAh Sony Battery that had a totally diffrent way of storing eeprom and pandora tools can't even verify the serials properly let alone alter it.

Thanks so much x3sphere ^.^ It's good to know I can leave my Pandora's battery alone & just make a new Magic ms.

frosty5689 I had my official Sony PSP battery converted into Pan's battery. Although, now that you mention the eeprom, I think I have another question.

Here it is:
How do I back-up the eeprom from my Pandora battery onto an entirely different MS (the new one I'll make to include the 3.71 M33 upgrade)? Will backing this battery's eeprom a second time cause any damage? (I'm practically gauranteed to be called a NOOB after that last question, huh?)

Do you already have a backup of the eeprom on your current MS? If so you can just save it to your hard drive, and then copy it over to the new MS.

If not then follow the "Converting a Battery to Pandora" part of the guide, but only choose the backup eeprom option then exit.

Boy am I glad I asked abuot the eeprom. Yeah, the original Magic stick does have a copy of the eeprom. I'm soo, Sooo glad I haven't reformatted it yet  I'll save that file on my computer before I do anything.

Is there a way to choose between 2 different custom firmwares on a single PSP? Like, maybe, go into system recovery & be able to switch between 3.52 M33 & 3.71 M33? You know, like how you can switch between 1.5 & 3.52 kernal mode?

If that is possible, then can that be set up on a Magic Memory stick.

One last question. When a Magic Memory Stick has been completely set up, is it possible to copy or back-up the MS in order to make one or more duplicate Magic Memory Sticks? It would be nice not to have to go through this all over again if my one copy gets corrupted or whatever.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the help (^.^)

No one has done that but it's basically impossible on a regular PSP, as there isn't enough space on the flash memory for both 3.52 and 3.71 M33 to fit. PSP Slim units have double the flash memory so it is possible to fit both 3.52 and 3.71 M33 on them, but then again the Slim cannot run the 3.52 kernel (without modification, at least).

Yes you can back up all files from a magic MS. Just remember that after copying the files to a new MS, you will need to run msinst and write "msipl.bin" to the new MS as well.

Excellent 8-) I've no idea how to ,"run msinst and write "msipl.bin" to the new MS as well" but I'll figure that out when I get to that point ;-)

Thanks for the explanation as to why 2 CF's can't be run on a phat PSP. Very interesting.

Boot up with OS Battery Tool?

You don't need to apply the 1.5 kernel patch, but it will increase compatibility with older homebrew. Most homebrew nowadays is written for both the 1.5 and 3.X kernel.

To restore the battery back to its previous state, insert the memory stick you used to create the battery with and boot up the OS Battery application again. An option that reads "Flash battery eeprom" will appear.

As for the memory stick, you can still use it normally without formatting, but if you want to free up space, then yes it's ok to format it.

Ok, so how can I boot up with the OS battery tool? I backed up the eeprom of the battery to the magic memory stick before I converted it to the pandora battery. So, I have both the pandora battery in and the magic memory stick and when it turns on the only options are
X to install 3.71 M33
O to install original 3.71
[] to dump the nand
L+R+start+home to restore the nand dump physically (dangerous!)

Maybe I am confused as to what I need to put into the PSP...

Wow...

Ok...So I solved my own problem and once again feel like an idiot. For anybody who is confused as I was, here is what you do if you want to convert your Pandora Battery back to a NORMAL Battery:
1. Do not have any battery in your PSP at all!

2. Make sure the magic memory card is in with the OS Battery Tool that you used to create the Pandora Battery in the first place with. On top of this, if you did not heed the advice and back up your battery's original eeprom to the magic memory stick, then your out of luck (as far as I know) because the application doesn't know what to restore the battery back to.

3. Plug your charger (6v I think) in to the charger slot. Turn Your PSP on and it should boot up like it would normally.

4. Go to the game section and run the OS Battery Tool, and make sure that NO BATTERY IS IN AT THIS POINT.

5. Once the application is running, put in the Pandora Battery.

6. I believe it shows up in green titled as a service battery, and then there are some options that you can scroll through with the D-Pad, one of which says something like convert to normal battery. Hit X on the one that says convert to normal, and there you have it! Your battery is back to normal and you can play your PSP like nothing has changed from the Battery point of Vew.

7. *OPTIONAL* If you no longer have a need for the magic memory stick, go through and format the memory stick, so that it will now be empty if you want the space. You might want to just keep it if you can, and if you can't, try and copy it to your PC so you can save some time if you ever need it again.

I hope this is helpful to whoever needs it (if anybody will ever need it)!

PLEASE CORRECT ANYTHING THAT IS WRONG IF YOU FIND IT!

-Thanks to x3sphere for the guidance, which helped me figure this out.

As you said that solve the problem, sorry to make the same question but before I asked I looked for a similar problem but there were so may posts that maybe I did not see it, anyway thanks, I want to be like you when I grow up. :w00t:

You need to navigate to the mspformat folder.

Without the quotes, type "cd .." to go back to a previous directory, and cd "folder_name" to enter a directory. Typing "dir" will display a list of all folders and files in the directory. Basic command line stuff.

If you're still having trouble tell me where the mspformat folder is located on your computer and I'll give you the exact commands to enter.

Wow, thanks for the REALLY quick reply and I got around the problem thanks to u. Also, if u boot up a unbricked PSP, will anything special happen? or does it just take special effect when the PSP is bricked? Also, is there a way to check if your battery and mem sticks are really unbrickers?

Again, thanks a lot

There will be an menu asking what you want to do. then you press the button that refers to the function and the PSP will run

to test if the battery and MS is real, just let it run and see if it really unbricked!

so u r saying that u can't open up the special function of the memstick and battery if the PSP is not bricked?

It doesn't matter if your PSP is bricked or not, when inserting a Pandora battery and magic memory stick your PSP will auto boot to a menu in which you can choose to install 3.71 M33-2.
