FDA Gets More Control Over Tobacco

Landmark legislation approved by the Senate yesterday will give the federal government sweeping new powers to oversee tobacco products, allowing regulators to control factors including the amount of addictive nicotine in a cigarette and how that cigarette is packaged and marketed.

Many of the new restrictions are aimed at preventing children from starting to smoke. Cherry and other fruit flavorings that appeal to children will be banned, along with marketing aimed at younger smokers, such as the use of Joe Camel and other cartoon characters.

If you read the article it says that menthols will be exempt from the banning. I didn't even know they made cherry flavored cigs but this will not be good if all of Skoal's fruity flavors get banned. I mean, I really enjoy the straight/mint/wintergreen trio but I enjoy mixing things up now and then with some peach/berry/citrus.

What about Cope Straight? I'm a big fan of that, I'll pick up a tin of that every now and then. Otherwise it's Skoal Straight Pouches for when I'm at work, and Grizz Green for when I'm out and about.

I was at the casino last night playing blackjack and I put a dip in and the fucking dealer said I wasn't allowed to spit into my bottle at the table, and I would have to swallow it. Not that I can't swallow the juices when I have to, but for fucks sake. It's like a god damn fire in the casino with all the smoke everywhere and I can't even turn my back to spit into a bottle?

That's too funny. Cigarettes illegal? Not in a million years. Tobacco is one of the governments largets revenues. Buying smokes on a millitary base is EXTREMELY cheap because there are no taxes. About 40% of the original price. You really think the government is going to give that up for a more healthy nation/ for moral reasons? LAWLSA

You think they care about revenue and such? They clearly don't, as all of the plans that the government has enacted recently has been to increase morale and mood per se of the people, completely disregarding any financial losses.

I mean, the government has completely disregarded any financial loss so as to make as many people happy as possible lately, and eliminating smoking would make a very significant amount of people happy. Yes, tobacco is financially beneficial, but it's like gas, so many people want it eliminated, that the government might just bend toward those people and eliminate it.

They don't want you to spit in the bottle because it may be possible for a cheater to use this as a signal to someone else.
