Using The Universal Unbricker To Unbrick / Downgrade / Restore Any PSP To 5.00 M33-4

Hi x3sphere,

Had followed all the instructions & successfully created a MMS. However when i converted my batt into pandora and try to boot up my PSP while holding UP button on the d-pad, nothing happened. What i can see is that's only green light on & de LCD light is on as well but nothing shown as per quote on 1st page

"2. You will be presented with a menu telling you to press X to install 3.90 M33 Press X."

Qn: Is my psp bricked? followed the steps to create the MMS everything is fine. Do i need to find another normal batt to boot it up to XMA & redo the steps again to create MMS & try to boot it back to normal batt? I've tried finding answer through NOOB faq but cant find any issue close to mine

System before error:
CFW: 4.01M33-2. Batt is SONY 3.6v 1200, Hellcat; Time machine; DC v5; 1.50,3.40,3.90 Eboot all stored in the MMS - created MMS successfully.
MS is a Scandisk 4GD

Your attention is very much appreciated!!!! Thank you!!

Sorry to flood the thread for nothing guys!!!

Issue solved after i came to the thread on Ultimate Pandora's Tool v4.3 & came upon this

Note 1
If you already own a Pandora battery and memory stick without the multi-boot function you must remove your battery and plug in the AC cable, but the memory stick can remain inserted.

so i tried to boot my psp using AC without the batt & boomm!!! i see what im dying for!!! MY XMB!! haha!!

Well the rest is history.. put the batt back & convert back to normal batt..

However when i convert back to normal batt, repeat the step for making a MMS, at the step when i have to press X to install 1.50 firmware there's a error showing ERROR WHILE INITIALIZING: 0x8ca10002 and hangs there.

I reboot my psp and back to hellcat application. It shows my current serial battery serial: 0x90ca0815
I remembered my batt serial number should be 0x8ca10002

does that means my batt serial number had been overwrite accidently? How can i resolve this error?

Fyi i can use boot my psp back to normal & play.

Installation: Converting a Battery to Pandora

Note: If you have just followed the steps above to create a magic memory stick, steps 1 and 2 below can be safely ignored.

1. Download Hellcat's Pandora Installer for 3.XX Rev 3a

2. Extract the Pandora Installer using WinRAR or any similar utility. Inside, look for a "pan3xx" folder. Copy this folder to "X:/PSP/GAME" on the memory stick. Exit USB mode.

3. Navigate to the Game menu on your PSP and execute Hellcat's Pandora Installer.

4. Upon launching the application, take note of these four options:
  • Press O to convert battery to Pandora
  • Press [] to convert battery to normal
  • Press R+O to write battery serial to file
  • Press R+[] to restore battery serial

"First, you will want to press R+O to backup your battery serial. If for any reason you'd like to convert your battery back to normal in the future, press R+[] to restore the battery serial. This is the preferred method for restoring your battery back to its previous state."

If by chance you forgot to back up the battery serial and still would like to convert your battery back to normal, choose the second option by pressing [].

Once you're ready, press O to convert your battery to Pandora.

5. You now are in possession of a Pandora Battery. Booting a PSP with this battery inserted will boot to service mode instead of the normal PSP XMB.

I think you missed that part bro.

BTW, can I use this tool to downgrade my current firmware version 4.01 M33-2 back to 3.90 M33-3

Im aware of this step too bro. @ that point i realise when i restore back my serial number, its a different number. Is there any application which i can rewrite the eeprom back to my original serial number of my batt? Understand using U.P.T installer it will random issue a serial number to change psp batt to normal as i've tried it.

I don't think so. Basically the eeprom faces the same issue with the IDStorage keys, which are unique for each PSP.

Hmm well in that case I just use my current slim batt as per normal till i get a new slim batt then I'll use my current to convert to a pandora batt.

Thanks Acerthief!!

Can I do back-up to all flash files (flash0,flash1,flash2,etc.)? By just copying each flash files to my PC? So, if ever anything goes wrong upon reformatting my flash storage, I can easily paste back the original flash files.

NAND = IPL + Flash0/1/2/3/4/5 + IDStoage Keys + lflash.

So just back up your NAND. :D

^ How about If I am not using any pandora tools? Is it possible to copy and overwrite flash files just by toggling flash storage?

And If I successfully downgrade my firmware without using extra battery and MS. Can I safely convert my battery back to normal again on the next boot?

Thanks!

Well if you're system fails to install, I'm pretty sure you'll be unable to toggle the flash memory. Also, when you go through the installation, the ipl will be formatted as well, but is installed last through the process.
So even if you are able to toggle the flash, the ipl doesn't work. It will still be bricked.

As for the battery sure, just remember to backup your eeprom before you convert it.

I think I bricked my psp trying to add a flashing a theme, I can't get to the recovery menu or anything so I don't know how to follow this guide. I have a Datel Tool Battery which I used to CFW my PSP, it's a Slim version. Can someone please help me?
I can't even make the magic memory stick cause the PSP was the memory stick reader

google total newbie installer.

Is it possible to use CFW 4.01 M33 to create the magic memory stick?

Also, I just wanted to know if every pandoras battery is exactly the same and if the memory stick is what makes the software different.

Thanks!

First of all I just want to say thank you for this very simple and detailed guide, i was struggling really bad trying to find a way to custom firmware my psp slim and this made it seem so easy, i felt embarrassed! Thanks again!

is it possible to do this from 4.XX software or would i have to wait for that to be created?

Would have to wait... only works from custom firmware at the moment. That's not likely to change anytime soon, so I'd recommend obtaining a Pandora battery through other means, such as purchasing one pre-converted.

Hi x3sphere,

I have made the MMS using the instructions in your tutorial. I'm now trying to integrate jasOnuk elf menu 0.4 with the nantool capability.

One of the process involving dump decrypting the 1.50 to get usb.prx, usbstor.prx, usbstormgr.prx, usbstorms.prx, and then putting them into the ms0:/kd folder.

I have got the 4 decrypted prx files ready, but then I noticed there is already a kd folder in the MMS, with a load of prx files and including the usb.prx, usbstor.prx, usbstormgr.prx and usbstorms.prx.

I have tried comparing the size of these 4 existing prx files with the newly decrypted ones and noticed they were all different. Eg, the already existed ms0:/kd/usb.prx has a size of 28.5kb while my newly decrypted usb.prx is 58.3kb.

Should I replaced the existing ms0:/kd/usb.prx .... etc with newly decrypted usb.prx ... files ?

By the way, are the prx files in Ms0:/kd in use during the unbricking/downgrading process ? There is already another kd folder in the ms0:/TM/DC5/kd .....

Thk u very much for your help !

Help? I need to know if it's the battery or the memory stick that make the firmware it upgrades to different and whether or not I can use 4.01 M33 for this. Thanks

hi

am totally new to this whole psp/homebrew thing.

just recently got a psp slim. its running 4.05.

would like to follow this guide but at the top under requirements it says:

'A working, homebrew-capable PSP running at least 3.X OE / M33'

...i dont think mine meets this requirement...:confused1:

so...what do u do now? if there are any more really idiot proof step by step guides then please send me the links etc.

also, is it possible to do any of this stuff on a mac rather than a pc?

thank you in advance
